The Institute of Archaeology of the University of Algiers 2 Abou El Kacem Sa\u00e2dallah is a public institution providing training and research in archaeology. It is located on the campus of the New City of Sidi Abdellah in Mahelma and is attached to the University of Algiers 2, whose main campus is in Bouzar\u00e9ah.
Institutional affiliation
The University of Algiers 2 was created in 2009 when the University of Algiers was divided into three institutions: the Universities of Algiers 1, 2 and 3. It brings together the faculties of humanities and social sciences, Arabic language and literature and oriental languages, foreign languages, as well as the Institute of Archaeology, the Institute of Translation and the Intensive Language Teaching Centre.
A teaching and research mission
The institute trains its students in the methods of archaeological research: excavation, survey, typology of finds, epigraphy, archaeometry and heritage conservation. Teaching draws on Algeria's major sites \u2014 Tipasa, Dj\u00e9mila, Timgad, T\u00e9bessa, Cherchell, the Numidian Limes and the Casbah of Algiers \u2014 which form a true open-air laboratory.
